Think Longevity

Although price and appearance may be the first factors you consider, think about longevity before falling for the look or price tag of a particular paver. The lifespan of a paver varies, depending on the type and installation method.

All paving stones should be laid on a well-prepared base that was excavated and packed down before being lined with gravel for drainage. The slope should direct water run-off away from the house and toward the road or swale, perpetuating good drainage.

Assuming a similar base, brick pavers tend to wear down much sooner than concrete pavers. Traditional cobblestone paving stones last the longest, but can be difficult to source and require an experienced professional for installation.

Most homeowners opt for concrete pavers, which are available in a wide range of shapes and styles to suit almost any landscape. These paving stones provides years of dependable stability with very little maintenance, and can be installed for a reasonable cost.

Why Not Opt for Asphalt or Poured Concrete?

Paving stone driveways, pathways and patios cost more than an asphalt or poured concrete pad. But pavers provide a better selection of color, texture and pattern. They may cost more per square foot, but pavers offer a distinct appearance and universal appeal unmatched by asphalt or poured concrete.

Carry your paving stones through the landscape with garden edging and mowing strips. The right pavers can be incorporated into other areas of your yard to provide a cohesive look. Think about installing smaller paving stones within your outdoor kitchen or creating a garden feature using a similar type of stone. Asphalt and poured concrete do not offer the same level of design flexibility.

Choose the right pavers for your property based on longevity and taste. Although you may consider asphalt or poured concrete for your driveway, pathway or patio, paving stones provide an unmistakable beauty and style. Choose well and enhance your outdoor living space with beautiful pavers.
